Rule one of Fear Island: stay out of the cornfield.

The last time someone broke that rule, my hands ended up covered in blood when Cipher took a bullet for me. My only thought was, I don’t know how I’m supposed to live in a world without him.

Noa fills every silence so none of us can hear how scared he is, yet he is the one who holds us together. Some think he loves too hard, but he loves us the way we need.

But since then, Cave has stopped speaking almost entirely. He vanished after the gun went off, and when he returned, something didn’t come back with him.

Everyone is thinking the same thing: he isn’t safe anymore.

They don’t understand that he never was.

Then there’s the question nobody will answer . . . what happened to my brother? I have a growing suspicion that the men I’m falling in love with already know.

Now the Harvest Moon is almost upon us. The one night a year when from sundown to sunup every hunter enters the game, and the cornfield is the centerpiece. They need their scarecrow ready.

I’m the only one who can reach him. I just have to hope there’s enough of him left to reach.
